Dr. Daniel Rath (he/him)

Daniel Rath provides scientific expertise in the formation, storage, and loss of organic carbon in agricultural soils, soil metagenomes, and long-term agricultural experiments. Before joining NRDC, Rath studied how land management, microbes, nutrients, and soil carbon interact over decades as part of his graduate degree. He has also worked with agribusinesses and NGOs in the U.S., India, and his home country of Belize as a farmer, soil scientist, and educator. Rath holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Carleton College, a master’s degree in soil science from the University of Edinburgh, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. He is based in NRDC's Washington D.C., office.
