Michele Knab Hasson
Michele Knab Hasson oversees a team working on climate and equity policies, programs, and partnerships at the state and city levels within the Western region of the United States. She leads the development of a holistic regional strategy to build-out and integrate climate and equity solutions the region, as well as connecting the region’s city and state work with NRDC’s national policy efforts. Before joining NRDC, Hasson was the policy director for the Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice, where she directed CCAEJ’s legislative, public policy, and political agenda to create safer, healthier, toxic free places for California’s environmental justice communities. For the past 6 years, Hasson has worked alongside environmental justice communities to advocate for improved planning, investment, policy, and legislation in air quality, land use, goods movement, and transportation. Hasson, who is from Mexico City, has over 12 years of experience in policy advocacy, starting her career under the auspices of the United Nations, where she worked for equitable frameworks for financing for development, control arms, and gender justice. She holds a bachelor's degree in Spanish literature from the University of San Francisco and a master's of public policy in international development and cooperation from Mexico’s Nacional Council on Science and Technology at the Institute Mora. She is based in NRDC’s Santa Monica office.
