NCI, three Research Centers and a Coordinating Center work collaboratively to conduct evidence-based research to improve symptom control for cancer patients.
National Cancer Institute
based in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences at NCI. Program
staff serving as project scientists are responsible for monitoring the
operations of the Consortium and reviewing progress to meet the expectations
set forth by Congress in the 21st Century Cures Act. The NCI Science
Officer and other NCI investigators participate on the IMPACT Steering
Committee and other groups designated to accelerate the
research and collaborative activities. Program staff will also promote
interactions with other NCI-sponsored programs, projects and centers that are
related to the Cancer Moonshot.
includes three research centers conducting the projects described under "Research Projects". Grantees include:
Northwestern University based in Chicago, IL conducting NU IMPACT;
Mayo Clinic based in Rochester, MN conducting E2C2; and
A collaborative effort led by Dana-Farber Research Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. This collaborative effort is a partnership between Dana Farber and five other highly diverse institutions including Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH,
Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN, Lifespan/Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI, West Virginia University Cancer Institute in Morgantown, WV,
and Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. These research centers are conducting SIMPRO.
The research centers are deploying an integrated symptom assessment and management system into clinical practices,and testing the impact of the system on
patient outcomes, cancer treatment delivery, and healthcare utilization.
As the Coordinating Center, RTI International supports the
IMPACT Consortium by providing administrative, operational and meeting support; website development, governance and other policies (in conjunction with the Steering
Committee); progress monitoring; construction and analysis of consortium-wide data; and support for development of
presentations and publications. The Coordinating Center has representatives
on the Steering Committee and all groups.
